New lifeboat for Bangor

The RNLI placed the new class Atlantic 85 "Jessie Hillyard" on station at Bangor on 8th October.

She is the first of her type to be placed in Ireland. Measuring 8.3metres, she carries a crew of 4 and is powered by twin 115 hp Yamaha 4 stroke outboards, giving a speed of 35 knots with an endurance of 2.5 hours.

A lifeboat station was established at Bangor in 1965 and Bangor lifeboats have launched over 900 times since then, saving 152 lives.

All the Quay Marinas operational staff at Bangor serve as volunteer lifeboat crew members.
